Jimmie Maccini

Obituary of Jimmie Andrews Maccini

Jimmie A. Maccini, age 96, of Sterling, Virginia, passed away peacefully on Friday, 19 January 2018 at Reston Hospital Center.

Born on 28 January 1921 in Tennessee, she was the daughter of the late Mary Ella (McMurtry) and James Andrews.  Jimmie moved to Washington DC in 1941, where she began a career of federal government service and where she met and married the love of her life, Bartholomew Joseph (Al) Maccini, on 24 October 1942.  To this union were born Mary Ellen (JR) of Sterling, VA; Michael (Sharon) of Charles Town, WV; Roseanne (Stuart) of Manassas, VA; Peter (Patti) of Herndon, VA; and Anthony (Sue) of Aquia, VA.  Jimmie and Al were married for 55 blissful years.  She was the proud Nana of six grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.  Jimmie was preceded in death by Al (husband), Michael (son), and Sadie and Pauline (her two sisters).

Jimmie was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and Nana; her foremost focus was her family, including dogs.  With a big heart, she cared, loved, and accommodated her family in any way that she could.  Jimmie was a long-time resident of Vienna, VA and later Sterling.  She loved music and was involved in Sweet Adelines.  Jimmie enjoyed reading and working puzzles.  Feisty, quick-witted, and a memory with recall and details beyond compare, Jimmie loved to recollect and share stories about her family and travels to Africa, Hawaii, and the Boston area.  She was looking forward to celebrating her 97th birthday with family and friends at her favorite Italian restaurant in the coming week.

Visitation is scheduled for 9:00 a.m. prior to services beginning at 10:00 a.m. on Friday, 26 January, 2018 at Adams-Green Funeral Home, Herndon.  Burial will follow at 12:00 at Quantico National Cemetery.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
