Lawrence Paul Jeffrey was born August 2, 1925 in Harlem, NY to Telesphora Jeffrey and Charles Paul, immigrants of Grenada, W.I. Lawrence went to P.S. 90
then attended the High School of Commerce in New York City.  He met Velma Arrington through mutual friends and in 1946 they were married. That union produced seven children, Paula, Sandra, Mark, Robert, Kent, Leota and Catherine.

Lawrence worked many jobs before accepting employment at Allied Chemical in New York’s Times Square. Jeff (as he was affectionately called) stayed with Allied Chemical a few more years. He and Velma moved with their young family to the suburbs of Far Rockaway, New York. Jeff stayed with Allied Chemical before taking employment with the MTA (Mass Transit Authority) advancing from conductor to train operator along the famous A line train route.

Lawrence was a member of TWU (Transit Workers Union) Local 100. The membership worked diligently against unfair employment practices towards minority workers. In Far Rockaway, Lawrence was an active participant in the Redfern Tenants Association, responsible for getting traffic lights installed at key traffic intersections.

Lawrence and his family moved to Brooklyn where he became civically active as a member of the Democratic Unity Club in Bedford-Stuyvesant. He volunteered in the community, taught chess at the local public school, organized rallies for political candidates, and assisted with voters’ registrations. Lawrence retired from MTA of New York in 1985.

When widowed, Lawrence moved to Georgia closer to his son Robert, his sister Frances, and extended family of nieces, nephews and grandnieces/nephews. Later he moved to Virginia, close to his daughter Leota and her family. In 2009 he moved into Herndon Harbor House. He spent his retirement years enjoying recreational activities and making many new friends.  Lawrence kept in touch and extended his caring and wisdom to numerous family and friends.  
He is predeceased by his daughter Paula, his wife Velma, his sons, Mark, Robert and Kent. He is survived by his daughters Sandra, Leota and Catherine; his son-in-laws, Philip, Vincent, and Edward; daughter-in-law Sharon; eleven grandchildren, Jayson, Marcus, Joy, Christina, Michele, Ashley, Robert II, Brandon, Gabrielle, Skye and Eden. He leaves three great-grands, Noah, Skyla and Jayden and a host of loving nieces, nephews, and cousins.
At the young age of 92, always the gentleman, he leaves a lasting legacy of family unity, unconditional love, support, wisdom and his ability to leave a memorable impression with everyone he met.
