Obituary of Kerri Michelle Spaulding

Kerri Michelle Spaulding, 31, of Ashburn, VA, passed away in her childhood home surrounded by her close family on Friday, January 26, 2018, after a brief but brave battle with neuroendocrine cancer.

The daughter of Brian and Patricia Spaulding, Kerri was born on July 27, 1986, in Fairfax, VA. Kerri attended Bishop Denis J. O'Connell High School and then earned her Bachelor of Arts degree in English and Master's degree in Education from Mary Washington University. She dedicated herself to teaching and inspiring young children at St. Theresa's in Ashburn and then Waples Mill Elementary School in Oakton.

Kerri grew up with a competitive spirit and love of sports. She played softball from the age of ten through the last year of her life. The love of the game bonded her with some of her closest friends, and she could frequently be found passionately rooting on the Washington Nationals and Redskins with those same friends. Kerri also loved being at the beach, especially the Outer Banks, with her toes in the sand and a margarita in hand. She treasured her time with friends and family and enjoyed spending time at wineries around the area. Kerri's infectious smile and bright personality were two of her most memorable traits.

In addition to her parents, Kerri is survived by her sister Katie Sanchez (Yoel) of Columbia, MO; her two grandparents: Rita "Babci" Skrobialowski of Laurel Springs, NC, and Carla "Grandma" Spaulding of Sterling, VA; her four uncles: Danny (Brenda) Skrobialowski of Laurel Springs, NC, Stanley (Ginny) Skrobialowski of Lovettesville, VA, Skip (Shirleen) Spaulding of Charlotte, NC, and Kevin Spaulding of Kenansville, NC; her two aunts: Betty (Ron) Carriero of Manassas, VA, and Sophie (James) Wall of Virginia Beach, VA; her fiancé DJ Brumm of Ashburn, VA; and her dog Bella. She is further survived by many more loving family members and friends.

She is preceded in death by her two grandfathers: Stanley "Dziadek" Skrobialowski and Charles "Grampy" Spaulding; her aunt Marianne Ferrell; and her cousin Brittany Spaulding.

The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM on Friday, February 2, 2018, at Adams-Green Funeral Home. A funeral service will be held at 10:30 AM on Saturday, February 3, 2018, at St. Theresa Parish with Rev. Richard Guest officiating. A reception to celebrate Kerri will be held from 12 noon until 3:00 pm at Potomac Green Community Center, 44499 Oakmont Manor Square Ashburn, VA.
