Obituary of Frederick Burl Dodrill

Sterling, Virginia resident "Ted" Dodrill, 88, died December 30, 2011.
Born in West Virginia in 1923, he graduated from LaSalle High School in Cumberland, Maryland in 1941. He served bravely as Corporal with the 741 st Field Artillery Battalion of the U.S. Army in World War II, in northern France and central Europe.
Certified as a machinist in 1953, he spent over forty years in his trade, employed with National Jet Company, Allegheny Ballistics Laboratory, Airtronics, SCOPE Incorporated, Pro-Type and others. He enjoyed applying his extensive experience to all facets of the shop, assisting in the training of new machinists and participating in specific model design directly with engineers, where he was involved with the design of the original bar code reader system.
Ted is survived by beloved wife Marian Lorraine Andrews Dodrill; children Frederick (Sharon) Dodrill, Lawrence A. Dodrill, Mary Catherine (Kevin) Reed, and Richard (Kyleen) Dodrill. He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Sean (Catherine) Dodrill, Heather (Jamie) Pierce, Christopher Reed, Justin (Tiffany) Dodrill, Ryan Dodrill, Kelsi Dodrill and Josh Reed, and three great-grandchildren: Tori, Casey and Tristan. He was preceded in death by his two brothers June and Chuck. All of his family and friends will miss his smile, his sense of humor and his ability to beat us all at each and every card game.
Interment and memorial service will be held at St. Mary's Cemetery in Oldtown, Maryland at a later date.
