I am shocked today to learn of Mr. Buckert's passing after going to his facebook page to leave a birthday greeting. I suspected something was wrong when I did not get my Christmas card.
Though late, I extend my sincerest condolences to the best boss I ever had at G.E. Lighting in Washington, DC for eight years. We were a real ream and I had very high regards for him and his precious family.
I pray that we meet again in eternity.

Dear Mary and Laurie
Walter was one of my closest friends. From shooting basketball hoops with he and Chick Uhlen, to visiting his home in Rochester at Rhinecliff Drive, spending time at the family cottage at Conesus Lake, visiting Mary and Walter vacation time at Richmond Va, Hilton Head NC, and enjoying Mary's fabulous cooking near Washington DC checked out by her cute little dog's watchful eyes. Value oriented, faithful, and loving of family traditions, cherishing Laurie, that's Walter.

Dear Mary and Laurie:
In Yiddish, a Mensch is defined as a human being. But it really means a “person of integrity and honor” or “"someone to admire and emulate, someone of noble character”.
To me, Walter was one of the few people in my life, that personified what a Mensch is. He was always a pleasure to be around, informative, educational, entertaining and kind to our children. Also, as a bit of a side note, he did more to “cure” my kidney stones (I can still hear him say “Well, all you have to do Michael, is drink filtered water” while sitting on your back porch in Virginia”) than anything the medical establishment has done.
Thank you so much for everything that you have done for us and for sharing Walter with us. For someone that had so many roles in his life (son, friend, husband, coworker, leader, father and grandfather) he will be sorely missed.
Sincerely,
Michael

Dear Mary and Laurie,
My thoughts and prayers are with you and the rest of the family. I have so many fond childhood memories of times spent and the beach and in Virginia. My own children also have great memories of visitng Mary and Walter in both Virgina and Delaware. Walter was like a second father to me and he always made me feel very loved. I feel blessed to have had Walter in my life. I will always remember his smile and the twinkle in his eye. His support and love meant so much to Michael and I. Thank you to both of you for sharing this wonderful man with us. Love to both of you.
Love, Linda

Mary and Laurie,
I was saddened to learn of Walt's passing. I have fond memories of the times the Colgans and Buckerts spent together. What I remember most is the happy spirit that surrounded Walt -- always a smile, always a laugh. His kind-hearted nature will remain as a cherished memory.
My prayers and thoughts are with all of you. Hugs.

To the Family,
I am humbled to write these words...
Walter was one of the finest individuals that I have had the pleasure to meet....
I credit my introduction to Walter to my loving wife,Susan who had known Mary in
many DC organizations....
Walter advised me on numerous ventures, primarily in the government space...
Walter was very important in helping to secure a mission critical contract for our USMC
in support of a young BG Mattis, now our US Defense Secretary...
Walter was an amazing person.. Competent, direct and with an attention to detail that
was awesome to observe..
In every engagement we had together,I was humbled and always certain Walter knew
the path forward.
Walter, for me was in many ways a Mentor and just a great individual,a life coach and
a BFF so far ahead of when BFF was even in our dialog...
In true reality,Walter was the best of the greatest generation...His devotion to our military was second to none...
That is why I am having our American Flag flown and presented to Walter's spouse and family
Walter presented a human caring and decency that is sadly lacking in 2018.....
Walter was and will always be remembered as one of life's great persons!
I will always deeply cherish my time with him... When I had it wrong he told me.
I learned from Walter....Far too many people refuse and reject learning because we hide behind elegant degrees from great schools!
Well, not always the case....One can learn alot from a sales guy from General Electric
who walked alot of miles in NY City.....
I went to two great schools and I am most proud of my Walter Buckert MBA...
May the world remember this good and decent, and awesome person!
Walter,I will be in your debt forever
Susan&I extend our deepest sympathy to Mary and your family
