Obituary of Migdalia De La Cruz

Migdalia de la Cruz, age 80, passed away peacefully in her sleep at her home in Herndon, Virginia, on Friday, March 2nd, 2018.

She was born on May 19th, 1937 in Havana, Cuba to Guillermo Gonzalez and Maria Antonia (Valdes) de Ara. Migdalia was a superb student from an early age. She finished law school and received her doctorate in law from the University of Havana before fleeing Castro's Cuba in 1961.

On October 12, 1962 she married George Evis de la Cruz in Miami, Florida. Once arriving in America she continued her studies, reaching her PhD ABD in medicine and her Master's degree in education. She chose her passion, to teach Spanish; which she went on to teach for decades at McLean & Herndon High schools, among others. She was beloved by her students, co-workers, neighbors, family and friends alike; and she fostered these friendships with her compassionate yet jovial and outgoing personality.

She will be remembered as someone who loved to laugh and enjoy life by all that knew her. Left to honor Migdalia and remember her love is Migdalia's sister, Miriam Gonzalez de Ara Alonso, her two sons, George de la Cruz and Cesar de la Cruz, three grandchildren, Shane de la Cruz, Autumn de la Cruz, and Gabriela de la Cruz, and many nieces and nephews.

The family will greet friends and celebrate her life from 5-8pm on Friday, March 30th, at Adams Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street in Herndon, VA.
