Obituary of Scot Thomas Sheehan

Stumpe has been reunited with his leg.  Scot “Stumpe” Thomas Sheehan (46), devoted husband and dedicated soccer and football dad, passed away unexpectedly during the afternoon on Sunday, March 11, in Sterling, Virginia.  Born in Falls Church, Virginia and raised in Humble, Texas, Scot settled in Sterling 20 years ago.  His wife Lori, daughter Mekenzie, sons Brady and Zachery, parents Linda and Joe, brother Tim, father-in-law Al, brothers-in-law Kevin, Michael and Tim, as well as nephews Tyler, Austin, Jared, and Logan, carry on with the memories of his smile, infectious laugh, and ability to brighten the path of everyone he met.

Scot took his nickname after a tragic car accident in 1989 resulted in the amputation of his right leg.  Although that misfortune dashed his cross-country track dreams, he never let that limit his hopes for the future. He continued to be the same fun and loving person that he always had been, then and throughout his life.  He graduated from Humble High School in 1990, crutching across the stage to thunderous applause and a standing ovation from his classmates.  After settling in Sterling, he began his career as a dedicated civil servant for more than two decades with the Department of Justice, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms.  His ATF colleagues considered him irreplaceable and a beloved coworker.

Scot’s family and friends were the center of his life.  He made countless drives to Disney World to share in the wonder and excitement that Mickey and Minnie brought to his wife’s and kids’ eyes.  He spent most weekends for the past decade cheering his daughter from the sidelines of the soccer field.  The recent few years found him in the bleachers or working the concession stand at his sons’ football games, where he volunteered with Lower Loudoun Boys Football League.  Scot had a natural ability to make people laugh, and he never failed to put a smile on their faces.  He touched so many people, sowed seeds of kindness, and made a difference in countless lives.

Family will receive guests on Tuesday, March 20 from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church, 46833 Harry Byrd Highway, Sterling, VA 20164.  Mass of Christian Burial will be 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, March 21 followed by interment at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon. Scot's ATF family has established a gofundme campaign:

Scot Sheehan was a 20 year ATF employee who passed away unexpectedly on March 11, 2018.  Scot leaves behind a wife and 3 school aged children.  Scot was an irreplaceable employee, a devoted family man, and a beloved co-worker. Scot's family has been left without a source of income and will face certain economic hardship in paying for his memorial service and moving forward without him. Scot's ATF family would like to present the proceeds of this campaign to his wife after the memorial service on March 21, 2018.  Thank you for the generosity you are showing to his family during these difficult times.
