Dear Baker Family,
I was incredibly saddened to hear of Michael's passing. I haven't been in touch and didn't realize he'd been so ill. We met in New York City and had a long distance friendship. He loved to goad me with political barbs, and we would have long talks about life, his growing up times in Tennessee, his service. I enjoyed knowing that he'd be sitting with his dogs, and I could hear the ice cubes tinkling in his glass of J.D.
When I read the note from Gerry Steele, I burst out laughing.....I, too called his jacket pink!!
I am sure that his light is shining down on us all, he was a wonderful man.

I met Michael in 2003 at Long & Foster where he helped me write my first Residential Sales Contract. I always enjoyed his wry wit and charismatic charm. He taught me the ropes in commercial real estate as well. I then followed him to Samson Properties. My husband and I had the privilege of having Michael over a couple of times for dinner where his stories entertained us.
I am so glad that I got the chance to meet him in the hospital the day before his soul departed this earth. He said, "Suneeta, this is the last time I'm going to see you." I said, "No Michael. Believe me, you will continue seeing everything from up there." He said, "OK".
Rest in Peace Michael Baker...lover of animals, Jack Daniels, and life.

Michael was a joy to be around. He helped me believe that ‘southern gentlemen’ are still out there. A ‘gentleman’ with a wicked sense of humor & a sense of abandon. He shall be missed.

Regrettably, we all know too well the grief of losing a loved one. Happily, soon that grief will turn into joy when we welcome our loved ones back to life on a paradise earth (John 11:32, 38-44). Picture the reunions as dear friends and relatives, once separated by death, see Mike Baker again on an earthly Paradise—yes, to live forever! You have my condolences at this time of sorrow.

Mike’s Obituary that described him “other than business” was perfect. I never saw Mike without a smile and smooth as silk. He was definitely a sharp dresser getting his clothes at Fred Browns in high school. He called me a few months ago and I’ll never forget his encouragement and voice, same ‘ole Mike. Thanks to Charlie Williams for being with Mike, He relayed that Mike was surrounded by family and dog. He Passed In Peace.
Love you Mike along with many others,
Bayard

I was so sorry to hear of Mike's passing. I met him in the 8th grade when I was the new guy and had my initiation fight with him after school within the first week. We scuffled a bit, called it a draw, and were friends afterwards. Reconnecting at a high school reunion some years later, we explored some business opportunities developing data centers but never finalized anything. We stayed in touch, however, and I enjoyed his wit and needle as I hope he enjoyed mine especially concerning a pink sports jacket he claimed was salmon. I was looking forward to more of same and am sad it is not to be. My condolences to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.

Mike was one of a kind. He didn't mind a bit telling you what he thought about something or even about you right to your face. It never seemed to be mean-spirited, just raw honesty. Mike and I graduated from high school together and then I never heard anything from or about him for many years. More recently, we reconnected and exchanged emails which were always interesting to say the least. I very much admired him and pray that he rests in peace.

Dear Baker Family,
I have known Mike since the 4th grade when he sat behind me in Mrs. Brubaker's class at Bearden Elementary School. We continued to sit near each other in many classes all the way through high school. I was very fond of him. He was always a cool character, was always his own person, with his own ideas and not afraid to express himself. He was respected for those things and well-loved by many. He was also a very private person, usually hesitant to share very personal things.
We were sad that he moved so far away, staying out of touch with most of us. It was a real treat to see him at occasional reunions. We were proud of what he accomplished in the construction and real estate world of DC and environs, as well as his military service in Vietnam.
We have many happy memories of Mike. He went too soon.
I wanted to express my sadness and condolences to all of his loved ones.
Sincerely,
Emily Phillips

Many fond memories of Mike from grade school through high school, and most recently in the last few years enjoying his funny political rants.
Mike had many friends, and I think he knew that and cherished it in his final days.
