Obituary of Vicente Mariano Salazar

Vicente Salazar, 89

Vicente Mariano Salazar aged 89, died surrounded by his family on March 24, 2018 at home in Sterling, Virginia. Vicente was born May 26, 1928, in Quito, Ecuador the son of David Salazar and Rosa Elisa Salazar. He was the 6th of nine children,

Vicente enjoyed his family and always had an interest in math and enjoyed working with wood. Following in his brothers’footsteps he decided to come to the United States in  during the World’s Fair in New York City in1965. To expand his education and improve his English he enrolled in the Henry George School of Business. While attending an end of year class party, he met a young woman, from Cali, Colombia. On December 24th, 1966, in the middle of a northeaster storm that brought over a foot of snow to New York City, he married Maria Clara Castaño who did not give up after he was more than an hour late. Since that day they were together for 50 years. The following year, Jose Vicente came into their life. The family moved to Queens, New York. Vicente and Maria remained there until they moved in 2005 to Sterling, VA to be close to their grandchildren.

Vicente was a very humble man with very strong family values. He adored his wife and dedicated his life to making others smile and will go out of his way to help anyone in need. He was always a perfectionist. This was often seen in his passion for wood working more specially as a wood finisher. He always took his time and paid such attention to detail, the way he always led his life.  He always was looking out for the ones he loved and showed respect to everyone. Even as his life was ending, he kept uttering his grandchildren’s names, “How is Clara and Matthew?” and he always said “thank you” to his family and caregivers.

Vicente is survived by his brother Juan and his sisters Carmela and Mercedes, and son, Jose, his daughter-in-law Adrienn and two grandchildren Clara and Matthew; and several cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Vicente Salazar, 89
