Obituary of Lt. Col. William David "Dave" Johnson
Lt. Col. William “Dave” Johnson passed away on March 30, 2018 in Potomac Falls, VA. Dave was born on March 25, 1931 in Akron, OH to Alfred and Leora Johnson.
Dave attended the University of Akron where he and his future wife, Jane, met at a sorority party during their junior year. They married right after graduation in 1954. In the following year, Dave, who had been in the Air Force ROTC, went on active duty as a second lieutenant. He and Jane would spend their first three years of marriage at Kelly Field in San Antonio, TX.
Dave became a pioneer in data processing and would go on to work in computer technology. He graduated from the Air Force Command and Staff College in 1965 and spent the rest of his career in the military computer world, supporting intelligence. He served with the National Security Agency in Germany, the J-5 and the Joint Staff in the Pentagon, and the DIA in Northern Virginia. His final assignment was to establish the computer network for the DIA. He retired in 1983 and continued working on the project in the civil service, until 1993.
In 2007, Dave and Jane moved from their home of 35 years in Annandale, VA, to Falcons Landing. He was active in a variety of volunteer work and was on the Residents’ Council, becoming its president in 2012. He also taught two history classes, each lasting two years. During this time they continued to travel the world, with Germany being a favorite destination. Besides travel, Dave enjoyed bowling, golf, battlefield visits and was a Civil war buff.
Dave is survived by his loving wife, Jane, their two sons, Paul (Kim) and Steve (Beth), and five grandchildren: Sarah, Elizabeth, Zack, Alex and Lauren.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Monday, April 16, 2018 at Falcons Landing. A funeral service at Ft.
