Obituary of Donald Gilford Aliff Jr.

Donald Gilford Aliff, Jr. passed away on April 5, 2018 at Inova Loudoun Hospital.  Born October 8th 1948, in Elk Run, WV to the late Donald G. Aliff and Lois (Blankenship) Aliff.

During his youth, his father was in the US Navy, and the family lived in various locations including Norfolk, VA, Charleston, SC, Key West FL, Pleasanton CA, and Detroit MI.

He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps and served a tour of duty in Vietnam from 1969-1970.  He was then posted to the Security Detachment of the Naval HQ in London, where he met and married his wife, Diane.  During this time, he took advantage of the opportunity to travel and enrich his love of history.

After his military service, he had a varied career, mostly in the IT field, but his great passion was music.  He played in various bands in the DC metro area as a drummer.

He is survived by his wife Diane, children Jessica, Melanie and Nicholas and a grandson Logan.  He is also survived by his mother Lois Aliff, brother Gerald Aliff, brother William Aliff and his wife Lorraine, son –in law Bradley Drummond and many Aunts and cousins throughout West Virginia, Ohio and Michigan.

Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery at a future date.
