Donald “Don” Shaw

Donald Arwood Shaw, “Don”, 78, of Sterling, Virginia passed away in Reston Hospital on Monday, April 9, 2018. Don was born March 29, 1940 at Sibley Hospital in Washington, DC to D. Arwood and Mary M. Shaw and raised in Great Falls, Virginia.

As a young man he worked as an electrician for Roy Ball Electric and was a volunteer fireman for the Great Falls Volunteer Fire Department – Company 12. Don’s passion for the electrical trade led him to join the IBEW Local Union No. 26. In his 50 years as a member of the electrical union, he was a big supporter and advocate and helped recruit additional members.

During his retirement years, Don developed a new passion for motorcycles and riding. He became a charter member of the Local 26 Riders’ Club where he met many new friends and enjoyed many rides and events. Don especially enjoyed the fundraising event for Specialove – for children with cancer.

Don had several hobbies throughout his life. He was a lifelong loyal Redskins’ fan. There were many times he helped coach the team from his recliner. He also enjoyed working on cars, trucks, tractors, and motorcycles…basically anything with tires and a motor.

Don is survived by his wife of 43 years, Liz; brother, Rick (Lori); and four children, Donald Shaw, Jr. (Terri), Rodger Snyder, David Shaw (Heather), Elaine Snyder.

He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Jen Linthicum, Jessica Shaw, Tony Linthicum, Stacy Linthicum, Will Shaw, Chris Shaw, Chase Riggins, Ryan Shaw, Riley Riggins; one great grandchild: Maddy Linthicum; and numerous other family and friends.

Services for Don Shaw will be at Adams-Green Funeral Home on Saturday April 14, 2018:
Viewing and visitation 1:00 pm – 3:00 pm
Service at 3:00 pm
Reception from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm
