Obituary of Carol G. Thompson

Carol Gilmore Thompson, 68, of Reston, VA, in the warmth of the sun and surrounded by her family, passed away Thursday, April 26th, 2018.

Carol was born January 13th, 1950 in Coleman, TX to Joseph and Mary (Crawford) Gilmore. She grew up in Brownwood, TX, where she met the love of her life, and husband of nearly 49 years, Randall Thompson. She graduated from Texas A&M University with a BS in Elementary Education. As one of the first educators to support student learning in Special Education, she had a rewarding 25-year career in Fairfax County Public Schools guiding the high school education of students with diverse learning needs.

She enjoyed numerous friends and neighbors, with whom she frequently played bridge and bowled. She also appreciated fine dining and the endless search for the perfect wine. In retirement, Carol valued leisure cruises around the world with family in friends. The arrival of the Washington Nationals to the local area allowed her to satisfy her lifelong love of baseball on a regular basis.

Carol was preceded in death by her father, as well as her siblings, Sherry and Larry Gilmore. She is survived by her mother, husband, and daughters Tamara (Eric) Denslinger and Susan (Christopher) Imbembo. She was a devoted Grandma to her four grandchildren, Evan, Megan, Morgan, and Anthony. She is also survived by her siblings, Terry (Karen) Gilmore and Carla (Fred) Edwards.

A Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, May 2nd at 11:00 am at Floris United Methodist Church located at 13600 Frying Pan Rd, Herndon, VA 20171. A reception will immediately follow in the Fellowship Hall for all her friends and family.
