Dearest Moffett, & Mankin families,
I have known Elma for literally 70 years - ever since I can remember people - Gayle and I were best friends all through school, and Nancy and my brother John were in the same class and "ran around together." We all knew each other and all the mothers, mothered us.
Elma was & will continue to be a role model of all the best that Herndon had to offer then and now. I don't care that she's gone in her physical body - she is ever present in our hearts and our ideas of "the way things should be done."

I am so sorry to hear of Elma's passing She has put up the good fight these last couple years. She will always be remembered as one classy lady. Even though I have not seen her on a regular basis since moving to NC 14 years ago I had known her for some 36 years. It was always good to see her when I would be in the area
Having lived on Moffett Forge Rd my youngest daughter and her friends would love to visit Elma in her backyard. Rumor has it they all dreamed of getting married in her back yard.
She will be sorely missed and the HWC fashion show will not be the same without her

Elma Mankin was known by face if not by name to countless others as the "Queen of Herndon" as she wore her Tiara and gave her "Royal wave" as she rode on "Herndon Woman's Club Floats in the Homecoming parade. or in countless other volunteer roles at Reston Hospital, the Council for the Arts and also as the most delightful senior model at the Herndon Woman's Club Fall Fashion show.
We will all miss Elma and remember her positive outlook on life. Rest in peace.
