Obituary of David Kemani Roberts

David Kemani Roberts, age 47, peacefully entered into eternal rest on Wednesday, May 16, 2018.  He was the second son born to the union of Maretha Thompson and John W. Roberts in Chicago IL.  He leaves to mourn him his devoted wife Ellen Roberts, his mother Dr. Maretha Roberts, brother John (Degra) Roberts, step-mother Connie Roberts, 7 nephews/niece, Johnny, Darius, Darion, Demarcus, Jonathan, Charlie, Alexandra, Carson, and host of cousins, family, and friends.
David was born on August 12, 1970; the same day as his father.  He grew-up in Chicago and as a young child, he was introduced to Christ and participated in youth activities at Christ Universal Temple.  Upon graduating from Corless High School, where he was on the swim team, he left Chicago to attend Northern Illinois University.  After completing a year, he moved to Virginia to live with his mother in Alexandria in the Riverside Apartment Complex.  He worked for many years in the disaster renovation field as a carpenter and project manager.

During this time, he became interested in the sport of volleyball and found the love of his life Ellen...
May 1999, David and Ellen met in Jamestown, VA at an adult outdoor volleyball tournament.  Dave had started to play with friends and was interested in learning.  He continued to play volleyball for many years.  David married Ellen on May 24, 2008 in Herndon, VA.  They moved to a new single-family home in Charles Town, WV (only 5 miles from the VA/WV state line) and currently have a dog, Bella.  They are fortunate to have great neighbors and often had block parties till the early hours of the night.  
David loved animals and was “a sucker” for puppies or any baby animals.  For example: They had found a bunny’s nest in the yard and Dave tried to convince Ellen to keep one as a pet; they bought Bella when she was 1 month old.  He also loved the beach and the ocean along with people watching.  It had a calming and relaxing effect on both.  Along with the calmness of the water, David loved to fish.  Whenever they went to Florida, he always found a moment to fish.  Dave was given the opportunity to go fishing in ocean waters which he loved.  Of the many items on his bucket list, he was able to catch a tuna.
Viewing will be on Thursday, May 24, 2018 at 1pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170; followed by a funeral service at 2pm.  Interment will be at Lincoln Cemetery, 12300 S Kedzie Ave, Chicago, IL 60803 at a later time
