It was disappointing to learn that John died from colon cancer. His father and my father were first cousins. I visited his grandfather and grandmother often when they lived in the two-story house on Franklin Avenue. Unfortunately, I never had an opportunity to meet Remick or any of his family. I am confident the happiness John brought to many greatly exceeds the loss of his death.

I heard from LIsette of John and the rest of her family for a year before I finally met him when we returned from Germany. He was everything that Lisette said he was and more - smart, funny, gracious and wonderful to talk to and be around. He was a true gentleman in every way. He will be greatly missed.

My condolences to John's family. As the Chief Research Officer of CBS, I had the privilege of working with John in his position within our Audience Services operation. I have always been proud that CBS has an exemplary team of individuals providing a communications link with the audience and feedback on their concerns for management.
John was the ideal person for such an operation. He combined an encyclopedic knowledge of the history of broadcasting and, more specifically, CBS with excellent oral and written communication skills and compassion that enabled him to handle even the most upset viewer's issue in a manner that let each viewer know that CBS cares. He was a trusted resource to us all as an historian of our company. He was also a friend whose combination of intelligence and wit was cherished by all of his colleagues at CBS.
I will miss him very much.

"Johnny will live on in my heart forever. I fell in love with him when I sneaked into his play pen at Julie's house. I was 6 years old and saw this beautiful baby with curly hair and sweet smile. I wanted to be closer, so I climbed in. Boy, did I get in trouble!! He won my heart that day and I've loved him since. He had musical ability that I treasured and at the same time envied. I was shocked to learn of his passing. I had no idea that he was ill. We will meet again in heaven some day. Until then I will treasure memories of him in my heart. I love you, Johnny.

I was privileged to have been John's friend and (musical) colleague for nearly 40 years. When a small group of us founded The Village Singers in 1976 (now the highly-esteemed Greenwich Village Chamber Singers), John became our accompanist and, whenever possible, member of the baritone section. And so he remained for most of the group's history. It is fair to say we could never have achieved what we achieved without him. I left the group some 30 years later, but John remained a cherished friend, lunch-at-the-Neptune-Diner companion and occasional East Hampton weekend guest. His sweet nature, wonderful sense of humor, and astonishing musical talents will live in my memory for the rest of my life. And I will never forget his laugh -- which he never lost, in spite of all he had been through. He will be very much missed -- but will never really be gone.
I send my deep sympathy to his family, as well as my great thanks for all the support I know you gave him, throughout his life, and particularly at the end of it.
Kathleen

My deepest sympathy. John will always be one of the kindest and nicest people I have ever known. Not only was I lucky enough to work with him, but I was even more blessed to call him a friend. He was like a big brother I never asked for but thankfully got any way. He would happily hum whenever he was doing research on the microfiche machine behind me. Such a happy sound that I will keep in my heart forever.

Condolences and best wishes to John's family and to his many friends.
I have worked with John for over 30 years at CBS: He was a friend, a mentor, a professor and 'father confessor' to a number of current and former employees.
John was a Man of Conviction and a Man of Faith - he lived a life of Fidelity to his Faith and Convictions. He'd take some new employees out to lunch because he believed "Nobody Should Lunch Alone Their First Day."
John was a 'Mensch' - who gifted us all with his abundant kindness, prodigious intelligence and delightful wit.
He was an invaluable source of knowledge about Broadcasting (and myriad subjects) and was of a dwindling fraternity of people in the business who actually understand what Broadcasting is and what it was meant to be.
There must be a desperate talent drain in Heaven at the moment - for God has called up one of the very Best.
Goodbye Noble Friend. We will all try to be better people - and live up to your memory.

My friendship with John has gone back for more than 40 years.
We first met at CBS and were work colleagues but that quickly changed to personal friends.
We both were heavily involved with music and on several occasions John would accompany me on the piano for concerts.
One fun memory was our friend Frank Meyer's annual Halloween party. I went as Better Davis, as Baby Jane and he came as Victor Spinelli. He played "I've Written a Letter to Daddy" and I sang. We won first prize and a lot of laughs.
And oh, the dinners and the talks about religion!
Dear John, brilliant, incredibly witty, honest, kind and generous. A bright light has left the Universe.
How lucky to have been your friend.

John and I knew each other for about thirty years and had many discussions about religion and related matters. He believed in a literal heaven in which people would be able to meet, once more, those who preceded him. His concern: how would one find them?
My prayer is that there is indeed a literal heaven and that he has learned how to meet, once again, those he loved.

The entire CBS Audience Services family is devastated to learn of John's passing. He had put up a long and difficult fight over the past year and we were hoping and praying for his recovery. John's legacy at CBS is tremendous. For more than four decades he worked tirelessly preserving the history of our Company. John's instinctive love and knowledge of show business and broadcasting were indispensable. John was also a fine musician with whom I had the honor and pleasure of performing. He was a good friend to us all and he will be greatly missed and dearly remembered. Our love and sincerest condolences go out to all of John's family and friends. Somewhere John and Victor Herbert are just getting acquainted. And I'm sure they will share much music and joy together. God bless you, John.
