I remember Rich]ard well. He was always such a nice gentleman, whom I always enjoyed talking with. I know God is watching over him. Prayers are sent to the family and all those who cared for and loved him, that they may be comforted, knowing he is no longer in any pain, and has gone to his much deserved reward. God Bless you all.

I was so sorry to hear of Richard's passing. I worked with Richard and his son, Scott, at Green Funeral Home in the 1990's. Mike Frames came to my home to give me the sad news. I very much appreciated that as I always thought of Richard as a hard working, sincere and good man. Unfortunately, I will not be able to attend Richard's celebration of life as I have surgery scheduled. Please know my prayers, thoughts and love are sent out to Linda and the whole family. He is with God now but he will be so missed.

I was so sorry to hear about Richard's passing, because I know you guys would have given anything just to have five more minutes, hours, days, months, or years with him.
He was a great guy - well respected and loved by all who served with him in the Fire and Rescue Department, and by all who worked with him building Roto-Rays. He did not say much, but when he did, it meant something and if you were smart, you listened to him. He did indeed love his fire engine and his family - but not in that order. He could teach you anything, and would, if you took the time to ask. He was old school about things, but mostly in his values and his beliefs, and he trusted in what worked well and did not require fancy technology to accomplish what was needed. Thus, his beliefs, his values, and his love for family, friends, and the fire service never failed him.
I'll miss seeing him at fire service events and parades, where I could always count on seeing him and catching up, but like you, I'll take comfort in knowing that his suffering has ended and that we'll get the chance to see him again when the right time comes. If there is anything that my family or I can do for your family, please don't hesitate to ask. God Bless you, and the soul of Richard Slepetz!
- Pete

I deeply regret to hear of Richard’s passing. Not only was he one of the best officers I worked for, he was my neighbor and good friend. During his assignment at McLean, I was his driver and confidant. We carpooled together and shared many stories going and coming from the station. I continued my experiences with the Slepetz family as I later had the pleasure of working with his son, Scott. I share his and Richelle’s loss as he was one of the really good people in the fire department and in my life. If heaven doesn’t have Roto-rays, they do now. Rest peacefully Richard.

To Scott and the entire Slepetz family,
I'm so sorry for you loss. Richard was a great man and firefighter, and will be missed by both families. I hope you can find some comfort in the fact he was not only a great father and family man, but he made a huge impact on the fire service. May he rest in peace but his legacy live on forevermore.

Richell and family:
I am so very sorry for your loss and for all you have been through with this wretched illness. One of the benefits of working with Richell was hearing Slepetz family stories and sayings. They always reflected a joyful and loving family.
Fairfax County was lucky to have your father serve it with such class and distinction.
Thinking of you,
Laura Ellis

Richell and family,
I am so very sorry to hear of the loss of your father. He was such an icon in Herndon, and there's nobody that will ever be able to replace him.
May the Holy One, Blessed be He, wrap your entire family in peace and understanding as you begin this new chapter in your lives. May your father be welcomed into Shemayim (heaven) and know no more pain or illness, restored to perfect health. And may his memory be for a blessing, and a source of comfort to all who knew and loved him.
You're in my thoughts and prayers.....

I always considered myself luck to have had Richard as my first Lt. when I got out of the training center in 1977. I was honor to work with and learn from him. He was a fair and honorable man. I am sure that he will be missed by many all in the fire service and everybody that knew him. My thoughts are with all of his family.

Linda, Richell and Scott,
I fondly remember coming to your home as a middle-school aged girl and recall your husband and Dad as the kind and quiet soul who either nodded his approval or made his discontent known through his body language. I was always brought into your home with such graciousness and was made to feel immediately as if I was a member of the family too, despite my curse on your delicious pies Linda! That is why this loss is so poignant to me as it is the loss of one of my own family members too.
I will always remember Richard for his kind, steadfast demeanor and for the proud way he carried himself for he had everything to be proud of! My heart aches for all of you. I will see all of you soon in person.
May God hold you in peace. Much love from Germany, Nicolle (DeFazio) Moritz
