Obituary of Max Edward Malan

Captain Max Edward Malan USN (Ret.) son of Edward and Lillian Malan was born on November 7, 1922 in Perry County IL. Max grew up on a dairy farm in Pickneyville, IL.  He left the farm to attend Park University.  While attending Park University he joined the United States Navy in 1944.  Max later graduated from George Washington University. He was a career Naval Officer and served his country for 31 years as a Naval Aviator, Decorated War Hero and proud patriot. 

Max lived a life that reflected his strong faith.  He was an active member and Deacon of Lewinsville Presbyterian Church.  Later in his life he also developed friendships with members of Great Falls Methodist Church.  He was a man of honor and integrity.  His family came first.  Sports were next in line!  He loved the Caps and Nats, but could often be found on local baseball fields, soccer fields, golf courses and in high school gyms following the teams that his grandchildren played for in Fairfax and Loudoun.  He loved to golf and passed that love on to his grandsons.

In 1946 Max married the love of his life, Emaline (Rusty) Stanton, also from Pickneyville.  They shared 64 years together and had 5 children, Robert Glen Malan, Marcia Malan Simmen (husband Al), Edward Joseph Malan, Donald Gene Malan, Tammy Jean Malan, and daughter-in-law Tricia Malan.

Granddad Malan has nine grandchildren, Shane Malan (wife Jane), Josh Goddard (wife Tammy),

Season Appelget (husband Mathew), Justin Goddard (wife Jennifer), Sonnett Malan (husband Ahmed), David Malan (wife Elizabeth), Lauren Wilt (husband Tim), Christopher Malan and Robert Malan.  He also has eight great grandchildren, Ever and Trent Goddard, Carter Appelget, Mallory and Callie Max Malan, Michael and Cameron Wilt, and Emaline Malan.

Our family will celebrate the life of our beloved commander and chief on Monday, June 18^th at Lewinsville Presbyterian Church 1724 Chain Bridge Road McLean, VA.  The service will take place at 10:30 am.  In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to Lewinsville Presbyterian Church or Great Falls Methodist Church.
