Mazelsky, Robert

March 11, 1933 to June 16, 2018

Beloved and devoted husband of the late Sydele Mazelsky for almost 50 years; loving father of Valerie Ross, Melanie (Lewis) Matuella, Jay (Constance) Mazelsky & Richard (Laurie) Mazelsky; beloved grandfather of seven; he gave the word family special meaning.

Bob grew up in Freeport, New York, the son of the late Benjamin and Jean Mazelsky, and brother of the late Bernard Mazelsky.  He attended Freeport High School, Hofstra University, and the University of Connecticut, graduating with a PhD in chemistry.

After graduate school, he moved to the Pittsburgh area and worked at Westinghouse Research and Development, specializing in the development of new and innovative methods for the growth of crystals and processing of advanced materials.  He retired after 35 years, 10 patents, and recognition for advances in photovoltaic technology.  In 1993, he was recognized as Fellow of ASM for distinguished contributions to materials science and engineering. After retirement, he devoted himself to family, volunteer activity and long-time interests like reading and classical music. Throughout his life, he was loved and admired by his family, friends, and business associates for his wit, kindness, encouragement, mentoring and caring. 

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to: the American Cancer Society and the Alzheimer’s Association.
