Obituary of Lois Ann Barraclough

Lois Ann Barraclough passed away July 7th at her home in Herndon, Virginia at the age of 91. Lois was born to Jacob and Johanna Mary August 5^th, 1926 at Ft. Benning, GA. She graduated from Notre Dame Academy on Staten Island, New York in 1943 and then attended Wagner College. She worked as a medical laboratory technician at Johns Hopkins and later worked as a microbiology researcher for a Harvard cancer research center.  After raising her family, she returned to college and earned her BS in Medical Laboratory Technology from Anna Maria College in 1979.  She later earned her RN in 1984 and began a new career in nursing. 

Lois was first married to Paul J. Wolf (now deceased) in 1947 and raised nine children with him while living in a variety of locations. In 1984, Lois moved to Albuquerque, New Mexico where she worked as a Certified Oncology Nurse and later a Hospice Nurse.  She married Edmond “Barry” Barraclough (now deceased) in 1993, and was married for 15 years prior to his death. Lois loved the southwest and immersed herself in all aspects of the culture there. She loved to travel and spent time in Europe, the Middle East and Russia. She had a lifelong love of learning, even into her last years, where she spent time visiting museums, attending the arts and theater and any lectures she could find. 

Lois is survived by her children John Wolf, Richard Wolf, Kathleen Potts, James Wolf, Thomas Wolf, Marion Brusuelas, Paul Wolf, and Sheila Coly. Her youngest son Peter Wolf is deceased. She is the grandmother to 21 grandchildren, as well as 11 great-grandchildren.

There will be a 10:00 visitation and 11:00 am memorial service for Lois Monday, August 6th at the Adams Green Funeral Home in Herndon Virginia. This will be immediately followed by an interment at Chestnut Grove Cemetery and a reception at O’Faolain’s Restaurant, located at 20921 Davenport Dr. Sterling, VA.
