Obituary of Charles Emile Gelinas

Obituary of Charles E. Gelinas (Chuck)

It is with great sadness that the family of Chuck Gelinas announces his unexpected passing at his Reston, VA home on Thursday, July 12, 2018, at the age of 77 years.

Born in Manchester, NH on September 18, 1940. Chuck served in the U.S. Air Force and spent some time as a laborer for the Department of Highways in Manchester, NH, before stepping into his career at the U.S. Postal Service where he worked more than 26 years until his early retirement.

Chuck settled into the Washington area in 1966 and spent his last 39 years as a resident of Reston. In his later years, Chuck enjoyed doing crossword puzzles and playing poker with friends. He spent time praying, reading, walking and feeding the many birds and squirrels in his yard. Chuck enjoyed watching westerns and gameshows, particularly, the television show Jeopardy. He also had a love for sports cards and collectibles and was a devoted fan of Washington sports teams, especially, the Washington Redskins.

Chuck will be lovingly remembered by his children, Janis (Swain), Jason and Joseph – his four grandchildren, Maggie, Charlie, Amy and Ellie Swain – his five siblings, Lionel Gelinas, Lorraine Plichta, Claudette Stanton, Estelle Coleman, and Madeleine La Flamme – and many nieces, nephews, neighbors and friends.

Predeceased by his parents, Waldon O. Gelinas and Gabrielle J. (Gelinas) Lamy, we are certain he has been received with open arms.

The family will receive friends on Monday, July 23, 2018 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden St, Herndon, VA 20170.

The funeral will be held Tuesday, July 24 at 11:00 am at St. John Neumann Catholic Church, 11900 Lawyers Rd, Reston, VA 20191. A celebration of Chuck’s life will follow the funeral from 12:30-3:00 pm at Red’s Table, 11150 South Lakes Dr, Reston, VA 20191.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to The American Cancer Society in memory of Charles E. Gelinas.
