Obituary of Felicita Ramos

Felicita (Felita) Ramos, daughter of Mariano Santiago and Felicita Santiago, was born on April 18, 1934 in Adjuntas on the lovely island of Puerto Rico.  She was one of a large, loving family of 14 siblings.   At the age of 17 she emigrated to New York City to live with her sister in Manhattan.  There she met the love of her life, Ismael Ramos.  They married in 1954.  They had three children, Linda, Lillian and Ishmael Jr.  
 

For a short period of time, she worked in garment industry.  She was chosen as part of a team of four that traveled to Puerto Rico and, over several months, opened a garment factory there.  She then returned to New York and eventually became a maker and designer of women’s hats, a job that allowed her to express her creative side and which she loved dearly.  But her true calling was being a devoted mother and the business partner to her husband in small family food and restaurant businesses in New York and later in Puerto Rico where they worked long and hard hours to accomplish their “American Dream.”
 

Felicita was a very spiritual person and at age 21 she converted to the Seventh-Day Adventist Church.  She became very active in every aspect of the church including choir, children’s classes, care of the children, women’s charity organizations, fund raising, and prayer groups.  At times she was a member of the church board and a church Deaconess.  She remained a devoted member of the church until her passing.
The family moved back home in 1966 and lived in Toa Baja, Puerto Rico.
 

Felita was a loving, affectionate, and kind person with a happy disposition which made her a favorite with her family and the church community.  She had many hobbies, but her favorite activity was entertaining and cooking for her family and friends.  She was known for her delicious Puerto Rican dishes.  Their home and doors were always opened to all, especially those who were in need in her community.  She always cooked more just in case an unexpected visitor came to visit.  And there were always many visitors.   
 

Eventually, Felita and Ismael retired to Hollister, California, where they lived together until Ismael’s death in 2006.  In 2014, following the death of her daughter, Lillian, she moved to Sterling, Virginia where she lived with her daughter, Linda, and her son-in-law, Jim, until she passed on July 19, 2018.
 

She was preceded in death by her husband, Ismael Ramos and daughter, Lillian Dommert.  She is survived by her daughter, Linda Ramos Tower; son-in-law, James D. Tower; son, Ishmael Ramos; daughter-in-law, Celina Padilla Ramos; and her grandchildren Caleb Ramos, Raquel Ramos and Jordan Rodriguez and great-grandson, Jaydon Rodriguez.

Felícita (Felita) Ramos, hija de Mariano Santiago y Felicita Santiago, nació el 18 de abril de 1934 en Adjuntas, en la hermosa isla de Puerto Rico.  Ella era de una familia grande y amorosa de 14 hermanos. A la edad de 17 años emigró a Nueva York para vivir con su hermana en Manhattan.  Allí conoció al amor de su vida, Ismael Ramos.   Se casaron en el 1954. Tuvieron tres hijos, Linda, Lillian e Ishmael, Jr.

Durante un corto período de tiempo trabajó en la industria de la confección.  Fue elegida como parte de un equipo de cuatro personas que viajaron a Puerto Rico y, durante varios meses, abrieron una fábrica de ropa allí.  Luego regresó a Nueva York y eventualmente se convirtió en creadora y diseñadora de sombreros de mujer, un trabajo que le permitió expresar su lado creativo y que amaba profundamente. Pero su verdadera vocación era ser una madre devota y la compañera de negocios de su esposo en pequeñas empresas familiares de comida y restaurantes en Nueva York y más tarde en Puerto Rico, donde trabajaron muchas horas para lograr su "sueño americano".

Felícita era una persona muy cristiana y a los 21 años se convirtió a la Iglesia Adventista del Séptimo Día.  Fue muy activa en todos los aspectos de la iglesia, incluyendo el coro, las clases y cuidado para niños, las organizaciones de caridad de mujeres, la recaudación de fondos y los grupos de oración.  Fue diaconisa y miembro de la junta de la iglesia.  Permaneció como miembro devoto de la iglesia y trajo muchos a la cruz de Jesús Cristo.

La familia se mudó a Toa Baja, Puerto Rico en el 1969.  Felita era una persona cariñosa, afectuosa y amable y con una disposición alegre que la hacía una favorita en su familia y la comunidad de la iglesia. Tenía muchos pasatiempos, pero su actividad favorita era entretener y cocinar para su familia y amigos. Ella era conocida por sus deliciosos platos puertorriqueños.  Su hogar y sus puertas siempre estuvieron abiertas para todos, especialmente para aquellos que estaban necesitados en su comunidad.  Ella siempre cocinaba más por si acaso un visitante inesperado venía de visita y siempre hubo muchos visitantes.
 

Finalmente, Felita e Ismael se retiraron a Hollister, California, donde vivieron juntos hasta la muerte de Ismael en 2006. En 2014, tras la muerte de su hija, Lillian, se mudó a Sterling, Virginia, donde vivía con su hija, Linda, y su yerno, Jim, hasta que falleció el 19 de julio de 2018.  Le precedieron en la muerte su esposo, Ismael Ramos y su hija, Lillian Dommert.  Ella es sobrevivida por su hija, Linda Ramos Tower; yerno, James D. Tower; hijo, Ishmael Ramos; nuera, Celina Padilla Ramos; y sus nietos Caleb Ramos, Raquel Ramos y Jordan Rodríguez y su bisnieto, Jaydon Rodríguez.
