Obituary of Bertha Lorene McDonald

Bertha McDonald of Sterling VA passed away Friday, July 20, 2018 at Reston Hospital Center.  Ms. McDonald was born in Kansas, September 13, 1926.  During her life she lived in many places but spent most of her time in California, Florida and Virginia.  She was an avid reader devouring 2 or 3 books a week.  She loved the mountains and in her younger years loved to hike.  She was a life time knitter until arthritis prevented her from continuing.  During her teens she played steel guitar and always had a special place in her heart for Hawaiian music.

Bertha is survived by her two brothers; Marvin McDonald and his wife Shirley, of Corvallis, OR and Kenneth McDonald of Tacoma, WA.  Her children include son Richard Hine and wife Gloria of Jupiter, FL; and 2 daughters, Sandra Krieger and husband Bill of Lincoln NE; and Kathleen Jacobs and husband Ed of Sterling VA.  Also surviving are 7 grandchildren, 6 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great grandchildren.

Interment will be Friday, July 27, 2018 at Chestnut Grove Cemetery, Herndon, VA.  In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA).
