Obituary of Elda Marie Swisher

Elda Marie Swisher, 90, of Sterling, VA, passed away on Sunday, July 29, 2018.

Born on September 21, 1927, in Clearfield, Pennsylvania, she was the daughter of the late James Walker and the late Myrtle Walker.  In addition to her parents, her husband, John H. Swisher, Jr., her daughter, Gail Peters, her brother, John S. Walker, and her great-great grandchildren, Kaydan Aristhomene and Liam Aristhomene, preceded her in death.
 

Elda attended school in Clearfield, PA. As a young woman, she began working as a seamstress at the McGregor Factory. While working at the factory, she supported the World War II effort by sewing uniforms and other clothing for the soldiers. On April 27, 1946, she married John H. Swisher, Jr. Most of her adult life was dedicated to raising her three daughters and her niece, Terry (Walker) Stowers. Elda continued to enjoy sewing for her family as well as numerous dance schools and twirling groups.


Her daughters and sons-in-law, Joyce and Carroll Amos of Sterling, VA, and Tammy and Allen Ashforth of Chantilly, VA, survive her. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Carla McIntire, Michael Amos, Jennifer Amos, Adam Ashforth, Allison Ashforth, Allen Ashforth, and Jeff Ashforth; as well as great-grandchildren and great-great grandchildren: Nicole Sneed, Justin Englehart, Brittany Amos, Lindsey Amos, Courtney Amos, Alessandra Amos, Michael Amos, Jr., Connor Ashforth, Alec Ashforth, McKenna Ashforth, Skylar Ashforth, Kyle Ashforth, Jacob Sneed, and Jordan Englehart.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 PM until 8:30 PM on Thursday, August 2, 2018, at Adams-Green Funeral Home. 

A funeral service will be held at 1:00 PM on Friday, August 3, 2018, at St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in Herndon, VA. Burial will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, VA.   

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the American Cancer Society, JDRF, or Capital Caring.
