Obituary of Mary Louise Konczal

MARY LOUISE KONCZAL, of Sterling, VA, departed this life at home surrounded by her family Tuesday, August 14, 2018. Known as “Louise” she was the beloved wife of Frank J. Konczal, Jr. who predeceased her April 15, 2002 and the dear mother of seven children, the sixth of whom, Maribeth Francis, predeceased her January 15, 1969.

Born in Fort Worth, Texas March 26, 1930, she was the middle child of Benjamin Andrew Zwald and Lenore Mae King. Raised in Texas, Ohio, and later, Philadelphia, PA, she was a member of the Frankford High School Class of 1947. She was predeceased by a brother, David Zwald. After high school graduation, Louise worked first as a clerk, and then a receptionist at a steel company office and later at the AAA, Philadelphia. On August 5, 1950 she married Frank J. Konczal, Jr, who served in the U.S. Marine Corps until 1952, at which time they settled in his hometown of Chicago, IL where they resided until 1972 when a company transfer moved the family, first to Winchester, VA for seven years, and then in 1979 to Fairfax, VA. After moving to Fairfax, Louise worked as a receptionist at University Veterinary Clinic and later as a legal receptionist for Dunn, McCormack & MacPherson, where her beautiful smile and soft voice welcomed many over the years. In 2015, at 85 years young, she retired after 30 years with the firm.

Having moved to Sterling, VA in 2006, Louise was a parishioner at Our Lady of Hope Catholic Church. A devout, converted Roman Catholic and a patriotic American, she especially enjoyed holidays, decorating for them and welcoming the changing seasons. Fond of lighthouses, Louise enjoyed vacationing at the Atlantic beaches, and sharing photographs of family. She loved baking, especially cookies and pies, and most of all, cherished time spent with her family, especially spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, with her beloved Yorkshire Terriers by her side.

Survivors include six children, Sandra Rigas, of Wellsville, NY; Daniel (Yelena) of Sterling; Robert (Linda) of South Riding; Kimberly (Michael) Hodes, of Tucson, AZ; Christin (Arthur) Ortenburger of Bonshaw, Prince Edward Island, CA; and Felicia (Keith) Sink, of Charlotte, NC; 18 grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; 10 nieces and nephews; and a sister, Jeane MacKinstry-Rogers of Telford, PA.
