Obituary of Edward Daniel Goloway

Edward Daniel Goloway passed away on August 21, 2018 in Sterling VA, soon after celebrating his 95th birthday, surrounded by family and friends.

 

Edward was born on July 27, 1923 in New York, New York, the son of Stephen and Tekla Goloway. He graduated from the United States Naval Academy and served as a naval officer on the USS Conroy and in Moscow before continuing to serve his country with the Central Intelligence Agency for the remainder of his career. He was also an active member of the Naval Reserves, attaining the rank of Captain before his retirement.

 

He married Phyllis Strock Goloway in 1953, who preceded him in death in 2014. With their daughters, Stephanie Goloway and Frances Goloway (Joseph Forshaw), Ed and Phyllis were stationed in Tehran, Iran; Stockholm, Sweden; and Helsinki, Finland, in addition to Washington, DC.

 

After his retirement, Ed and Phyllis moved to Berryville, VA, where he became active in the Clark County Chamber of Commerce and the Planning Commission as well as the Episcopal Diocese of Virginia. He continued his service with the Diocese when he and Phyllis relocated to Falcons Landing Retirement Community in Sterling. At Falcons, he also served on the Residents’ Council and was active in a variety of activities and committees.

 

In addition to his daughters, Edward leaves behind his brother George Goloway (Sandra), two grandchildren, Ezekiel and Jinnie Templin, and many nieces, nephews and cousins. He will be remembered for his devotion to his family, his faith, and his country, as well as for his lifelong interest in global affairs and his sense of humor.

 

A memorial service will be held upon his interment at Arlington National Cemetery, at a date to be determined. Memorial donations may be made to St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church, Sterling VA.
