Obituary of Henri Jean Comeau

Henri Comeau, 86, wonderful father, grandfather, brother and friend, died peacefully on August 29, 2018, surrounded by family.  Henri was a Sierra Club hike leader, business owner and Korean war vet.  He is survived by 3 daughters, 7 grandchildren, 1 great-grandson, a brother and two sisters and former wife, Penny Mason.

Henri was born and raised in Lynn, Massachusetts, the second youngest of 12 children.  His early military service brought him to Northern Virginia where he settled, married and raised three daughters.  His children have fond memories of camping, fishing, canoeing, playing miniature golf at Ocean City, and visiting roadside apple stands throughout rural Fairfax in the 1960s.

Henri was a Sierra Club hike leader for over 40 years and helped celebrate the opening of the Fairfax County Cross County Trail. He took up ballroom dancing after retirement and enjoyed decades of foxtrot, waltz and the polka at Glen Echo, Ft. Belvoir and wherever good ballroom music could be found.

Eager to learn and problem-solve, Henri jumped into the budding computer field, taking on challenges that eventually led to his starting a small business that served the accounting needs of a wide range of companies.

During his military career, Henri was stationed in Japan, Korea, and ultimately served at the Pentagon.  He received a bronze star in recognition of his service in the Korean war.

A private family service will be held, followed by a Celebration of Life with family and friends on the evening of September 10th, 2018 in Fairfax.  To attend the Celebration of Life, please email Jeanne at jazzafran@gmail.com to receive details.
