Obituary of David Hugh Cameron

It is with great sadness that the family of David Hugh Cameron of Great Falls, VA announces his passing on Friday, August 31, 2018, at the age of 76.

David will be lovingly remembered by his beloved wife of 55 years, Karen (nee Hansen), daughters Kristin (Kevin) and Wendy (Mark), grandchildren Brooke, Sophie, Brad and Natalie, sister Jeanne Cameron and extended family and friends.  He is predeceased by his brother George “Ladd” Cameron.

David was born in Chicago and grew up in Wheaton, Illinois. Always a leader and an athlete, he was Wheaton High School Class President and lettered in both basketball and football. After graduating from the University of Illinois, where he was in ROTC and a member of Alpha Tau Omega Fraternity, he was commissioned in the US Army Air Defense Artillery Corp and served at missile bases in Omaha, Nebraska (SAC Headquarters). He concluded his military experience as a Captain Illinois National Guard.

He then joined Mobil Oil Corporation, where his 38 years as an executive in Marketing and Planning took him from Stamford, CT to Great Falls, VA where he retired.

An avid tennis and golf player, David was very active in River Bend Country Club, where he served on numerous committees as well as the Board of Directors and as Vice President.

David was a lifelong Cubs fan and loved traveling abroad with his wife, wintering in Ft Myers, FL, cooking, genealogy, photography and performing magic tricks for his grandchildren.

Memorial services will take place on Friday, September 7, 2018 at 11 am at Immanuel Presbyterian Church, 1124 Savile Lane, McLean, Virginia 22101. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations in memory of David can be made to the American Brain Tumor Association (www.abta.org) and Adler Hospice (www.capitalcaring.org).
