Obituary of John E. (Jack) McMahon, II

John E. McMahon II, “Jack”, age 79 a resident of Great Falls, VA for 42 years died on Nov 5, 2018.  He was born on July 13, 1939 in Brooklyn, New York and grew up in Long Island, New York where he always took great pride in his Irish Catholic heritage.

He was a graduate of Chaminade High School, a Catholic Preparatory School for young men in Mineola, New York.  He continued his education at Pennsylvania Military College, which at the time was the second oldest Military Institution in the United States.  It was there that he found his love for the Pershing Rifles.  He and his brothers of Q-5 continued on to become national champions. After graduating from PMC in 1962 Jack proudly served in the United States Army as a paratrooper in the 101st  Airborne Division.

In the private sector, Jack started his career in the computer industry.  He and his partner eventually founded their own successful company in the lease and asset management business.  Jack was a parishioner of St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church for over 40 years where he served as President of the Parish Council and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus.

In his later years, Jack enjoyed his many trips abroad with his beloved wife, Diane of 52 years.  He always supported and encouraged his grandchildren by attending their school and sporting events.  A great lover of golf, he never missed a tee time at Riverbend Country Club where he was a member of various men’s golf groups.  Jack had an infectious laugh, was a great story teller and always loved to tell one of his many jokes.  He enjoyed life, loved his family dearly and was a true patriot.

Jack is survived by his wife Diane, daughters Deborah (Paul) Sechser, Rosemary (Tom) Thacher, son John E McMahon III, grandchildren Samantha, Alexandra, Jacqueline and Willliam, his sister Rosanna Clavin and 5 nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents John E. McMahon I and Rose E. McMahon.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be offered at St. Catherine of Siena Catholic Church in Great Falls, VA on November 20, 2018 at 11:00 am.  A private family interment will be held at Arlington National Cemetery at a later date.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association (www.alz.org).
