Obituary of Frank Lomas

In Memory of Frank Lomas -
Technical Director, BSI Group America Inc.
It is with heavy hearts and great sadness that we announce
the passing of Frank Lomas, a dear friend and respected
colleague to many in BSI, who courageously and with great
dignity lost his bravely fought battle with cancer on
November 19, 2018.
Frank worked as a Client Manager in the automotive sector
for BSI Quality Assurance prior to transferring to BSI Group
America Inc., 22 years ago in 1996 and relocating to San
Diego as his largest client Delphi Automotive had plants in
Michigan and in the Mexican Border Area. During his time in
San Diego he developed an excellent reputation within the
automotive sector for his professionalism and pragmatism as an auditor. He then accepted
the role of Certification Manager in the Operations team and relocated to work in the BSI
Reston office, buying a permanent home in Herndon. Following a promotion to Technical
Director in the Regulatory Affairs team Frank was responsible for managing and
developing a group of sector managers. In parallel with his Technical Director
responsibilities Frank also took on the role of the Automotive Sector Global Representative
and represented BSI at both the SMMT (Society of Motor Manufacturers & Traders) and
IATF (International Automotive Task Force) certification body meetings where he was
highly respected for his sector knowledge and technical capability.
In his dual automotive role Frank was a familiar face or contact point for a number of BSI
offices around the world. In particular, he was often with colleagues in BSI China as one of
their clients, Baoshan Iron & Steel Co. Ltd., specifically requested that Frank be part of the
BSI audit team on a regular basis. Their request was the respect they had for Frank’s
competence as an outstanding automotive auditor.

Those that knew Frank well also knew he had a very dry
but very funny sense of humor. He also had a broad
range of both general and technical knowledge that
many colleagues of all levels have drawn on over the
years.
Frank will be missed and will be fondly remembered
both inside and outside of BSI. If Frank has one lasting
message to us all it would be - without hesitation - to
remember the needs and expectations of our customers
just as he did. We can all honor his memory by focusing on our individual and immediate
ownership of total customer satisfaction.
A memorial service will be held at the Herndon, VA office during the first week of December
2018. As details become available then we will be certain to share them with you.
