Obituary of Rose Costanza Tangredi

Rose Tangredi

Rose (Costanza) Tangredi passed away peacefully on December 15, 2018 at Tall Oaks Assisted Living in Reston, Virginia. She was 96 years old.

She was born on February 4, 1922 to Pietro and Maria Costanza in Noepoli, Italy, a small mountain town without electricity, modern machinery, or running water. She and her mother worked their land by hand while her father found employment in America. At the age of 12, she arrived by boat in New York City with her mother. She grew up in the Bronx, and after graduating Summa Cum Laude from Hunter College she worked as an elementary school teacher in the New York City school system. After receiving her master’s degree from Hofstra University, she became a remedial reading specialist for School District 29 in Nassau County, Long Island. As her own life was a testament to the value of education, she strove to impart that ideal to her students and to her own children.

She married Joseph Tangredi on July 10, 1949. They moved, with their two children Michael and Mary, to North Merrick, New York, in 1960. She and her husband retired to Columbus, New Jersey in 1988 and moved to Reston, Virginia in 2015.

She is survived by her husband Joseph Tangredi; her son Michael Tangredi and daughter-in-law Julie Tangredi; her daughter Mary Lee and son-in-law Ronald Lee; her grandchildren Robert Lee, Elizabeth (Tangredi) Gonnerman and husband Jeremy Gonnerman, and Jessica Lee; and by her great-granddaughter Bailey Gonnerman. She will be remembered for the love, the sacrifices, and the guidance she gave to her family. A private family graveside will be held at Quantico National Cemetery.
