Merlyn Marie Smith

Merlyn M. Smith, of Purcellville, Va. passed away Tuesday in Leesburg, Virginia with her husband and loved ones by her side. Merlyn was born in Rice Lake, Wisconsin to Linnè & Bertha Olson on December 7, 1930.  She graduated from Herndon High School in 1948.  Merlyn married her high school sweetheart, George Smith in 1951.  They resided together in Northern Va their entire married lives.  Merlyn worked for the CIA, Fairfax County Public School System, and in their family owned businesses.  Merlyn enjoyed cooking, boating, and spending time with family at their vacation home. 

Merlyn is survived by her husband of 67 years, George R. "Bobby" Smith of Purcellville, her twin sister Marilyn White of Clemmons, NC, her son Dale Smith and daughter-in-law Kristina Smith of Waterford, daughter Cathy Smith of Purcellville, 4 grandchildren, Heather Smith (Matt Presgrave) of Round Hill, Matthew Smith of Berryville, Kristin Stapanowich (Andrew Stapanowich) of Leesburg, and Steven Thompson of McLean, 1 great-granddaughter, Harper Presgrave of Round Hill, and many nieces and nephews.  She is preceded in death by her parents, Linnè and Bertha Olson, her brother Curtis Olson and her sister Vivian Gleason.

A Memorial Service for Merlyn M. Smith will be held on January 23, 2019, 3:00PM with a reception following in the Church Fellowship Hall.  Address for Bethany United Methodist Church is 100 West Main Street, Purcellville, Va. 20132.
