Edward C. Ferenzi, PhD January 20, 1921 - December 15, 2010 Born on January 20, 1921 in Elizabeth, New Jersey, Dr. Edward C. Ferenzi of Sterling, Virginia died peacefully after a lengthy illness with his family present on December 15, 2010. Dr. Ferenzi moved to Sterling from Winter Park, Florida in 2008 to be close to his family. Dr. Ferenzi a was veteran of WW II having served as a Staff Sergeant with the US Army Infantry in the European Theater with duty both in Africa and Italy. He participated in several campaigns and battles including Rome-Arno, North Apennines and PO Valley. He earned several decorations, citations and awards from the US Army in recognitions of his service. Having been educated at Blessed Sacrament and Thomas Jefferson High School in his birthplace of Elizabeth, New Jersey, he entered the Civilian Conservation Corps at the age of seventeen and served for one year prior to his entry in the US Army. Following his discharge from the military at the end of WW II, he entered Montclair State College in Montclair, New Jersey where he obtained both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts Degrees. He also attended both the University of Miami in Coral Gables, Florida and New York University, New York, New York for post graduate studies and was awarded his Doctor of Philosophy in Educational Communications from New York University. Dr. Ferenzi devoted his life to learning and teaching others and never tired of helping others to expand their knowledge. He instructed at all levels of the educational spectrum from the elementary school to the university level. During his career he taught in both the New York and New Jersey school systems. During his retirement years he never tired of learning and was constantly enrolled in courses, perfecting computer programs, reading, cooking and square dancing. He was predeceased in life by his mother Helen Fox Kelly, his stepfather William A. Kelly, his brother Emil Ferenzi of Elizabeth, New Jersey his brother William G. Kelly of Sterling, Virginia and his long-time friend Evelyn Miller of New York, New York. He is survived by his brother Leo C. Kelly of Sterling, Virginia, his nieces and nephews Joseph Ferenzi of Elizabeth, New Jersey, JoAnn Cherapanya of Mount Wolf, Pennsylvania and Shannon H. Kelly of Sterling, Virginia, his great nephews Matthew Cherapanya, of Philadelphia, PA, Matthew C. Kelly and Brandon J. Kelly both of Sterling, Virginia and his close and life long time friends Walter and Marie Jakl of Lafayette, New Jersey. Services will be private with interment at a future date at Arlington National Cemetery.
