Maysie McDowell Williams Floyd, Age 83 Maysie McDowell Williams Floyd, formerly of Cynthiana, Kentucky, died at age 83 on 17 March 2008, at her home in Sterling, Virginia, attended by family and friends. Mrs. Floyd was born in Cynthiana, Kentucky, on 5 January 1925, a daughter of Homer Wilkes Williams and Lillian Palmer Williams. After graduating from Cynthiana High School in 1943, Mrs. Floyd worked at the Hobson Book Press. She married Robert Forsythe Floyd, formerly of Boyd, Kentucky, at the Cynthiana Christian Church in 1951. They and their children lived in Covington, Kentucky; New Carlisle, Ohio; Buffalo, New York and Arlington, Virginia. They settled in Sterling, Virginia in 1970. During that time, Mrs. Floyd held bookkeeping and office managerial positions at McCall's Corporation in Ohio, American University in Washington, D.C., and in Virginia, Capper's Nursery and the A. Smith Bowman Distillery, from which she retired in 1986. In retirement, Mrs. Floyd took great pleasure in reading, enjoying her garden and the many birds and small animals that called it home, and spending time with her friends and family. She also volunteered her time and office skills at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church, where she was a member. Mrs. Floyd was preceded in death by her husband and by her six brothers. She is survived by her sister, Mrs. Elizabeth Smith, of Cynthiana, Kentucky. Mrs. Floyd is also survived by her four children, Mary Lynne Floyd Hensley and her husband Carl II, of Minneapolis, Minnesota; Suellen Floyd Pometto and her husband Anthony, of Boone, Iowa; Robert Wilkes Floyd and his wife Juanita, of Furnace Mountain, Virginia; and Elaine Floyd Bohumil Wilkinson and her husband Richard, of Purcellville, Virginia; her former son-in-law Michael Bohumil of Potomac Falls, Virginia; ten grandchildren, Carl Hensley III, John Hensley, James Hensley, Angela Pometto, Joseph Pometto, Mary Pometto, Anthony Pometto, Theresa Pometto, Zachary Bohumil, and Joshua Bohumil; and one great-grandson, Roman Pometto. A memorial service will be held at St. Matthew's Episcopal Church in Sterling, Virginia on Easter Sunday, 23 March 2008, at 1:00 PM. A private funeral is planned later this spring at Arlington National Cemetery, where her husband, a former Marine and World War II veteran, was interred in 2002.
