Tom, Most scriptures teach us in essence, that God is Love. If this is true, then on your journey, you are certainly allowed more than one piece of carry-on luggage. Indeed, you have a lot to take with you. You lit up a room, and offered a sincere spirit of friendship to all you encountered. I enjoyed your presence so much. I think you knew by the sincerity of my handshake, or pat on the back. But, to reflect on today... I think the thing that would have pleased you most was to know that despite all of your wonderful attributes, today your life was measured. Not in accomplishment, nor intellect nor righteousness - all of which you had in abundant supply. Today, your life was measured in Love. While your family and friends shared memories of you, Lesley and I quietly thought of our own. And in my head, I could hear the song from the play "Rent", "Seasons of Love". I think you would have liked that. On the report card of life, you are an A+. You leave a legacy a strength, humility, patience and Love. Well Done, Airman. Your Friend, Bruce

I have often thought of Tom and Steve and the power of their friendship during our years at GHS. I wasn't aware of Tom's illness but surely hold the family in my prayers as you work through the grief and loss. Tom and I recently exchanged emails and I hope he knew how important he was to me during the teen years. He surely left a lasting mark on my life.

Mary, I will always remember how excited I would be when I realized that you and Tom were going to be spending time with us around the holidays. I'm going to miss the many conversations I shared with Tom covering several different topics. He was a true renaissance man and had a great sense of humor. I hope you are doing well and I hope to see you soon.

Thank you, dear brother, for all the smiles and laughs you brought me. But more importantly, thank you for being a wonderful role model, and mentor, and friend. And until I see you again at heaven's gate, know that your love is carried in my heart. For what more can we leave one another, but love? Love you, Tom! Your kid sister, Lee

To Mary and Tom's family, I just wanted to let you know of my deep sorrow with Tom's passing. He has been so strong and optimistic throughout his illness, even though he knew that he would not be able to win this battle. His thoughts were most often with you, concerned with your welfare during his illness and your well-being after he was gone. Over Mary's gentle objections, Tom prepared for this day, working to lessen your burden when he would no longer be there to help. When not thinking of Mary, his thoughts were often with his mother, his siblings, and his god-daughter. Most remarkably, he continued to work throughout his illness. Being Tom, he was ever concerned that the work be done well and on time. He, his humor, and his integrity will be missed by many.

Tom contributed greatly to the National Weather Service efforts to improve radar services for better tornado and other severe weather warnings. The NWS will miss his participation. Tom was also a great human being, and showed tremendous courage, determination and unflagging spirit in his final battle.
