Richard Joseph Handlir, age 88, of Sterling, VA, formerly of Millville, DE died on February 9, 2008 at his home. He was born on September 11, 1919 in Baltimore, MD to the late John and Anna Handlir. Richard was a United States Army Staff Sergeant, Service Battery, 771 st Field Artillery Battalion during World War II. Richard loved watching the Baltimore Orioles and enjoyed music, dancing, fishing, crabbing, the beach, gardening, hunting, treasure hunting, bird watching, playing baseball and softball, spending time outdoors and being with his friends and family. Richard was the beloved husband of the late Elizabeth Marie Handlir, loving and devoted father of Diana M. Takagi of Sterling, VA, proud grandfather of Lynda Kovach and her husband John, Brian Takagi and his wife Jennifer and Laura Burns and her husband Evan, great-grandfather of Katelyn and Jack Kovach, Christopher and Amanda Takagi and Clare Burns. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, February 12 th from 12:30 to 2:30pm at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA, where funeral services will be held at 2:30pm. Graveside services will military honors will be held on Wednesday, February 13 th at 11am at Delaware Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Bear, DE. In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorial contributions may be made to Capital Hospice, 6565 Arlington Blvd., Suite 501, Falls Church, VA. 22042.
