Dear Jeanette, We share your loss and grief. Jerry was one of my oldest and dearest friends whose presence I will always miss in my life. He was the epitome of a gentleman with a kind of old world elegance and graciousness. And, when Jerry was your friend, you had a true friend and such an amusing companion. Those were a few of his many special gifts. Our sadness is tempered by our lifelong memories of all the wonderful moments we spent in his company. We are all better for having known him. May you find comfort in knowing he no longer suffers and his soul has been set free. He now basks in the warmth and perfect joy and beauty of the everlasting light. Peace, my brother. Our deepest sympathy, Fred and Kay

Jeanette, I know firsthand of the difficult times that you & Jerry went through during his declining health. Memories will help you get through the dark days ahead. Jerry was a well-loved man, not only by family & friends but by his beloved canine family. He was also blessed with a great sense of humor. Rest assured that Jerry is in a better place without any more suffering. My sincere condolences, Jill Miles

Jeanette and Sons, This is tell you truly how sorry Lisa, Patrick and I am for you and your sons about Gerry's death. I was unaware of any problems so this hit like a thunderbolt. Gerry showed up at one of our Bell Atlantic Retiree Meetings (BAR) and told me how he was exercising, watching what he ate and had lost 75 pounds. I was very impressed - so this news is stunning. At Fred's daughter's memorial, I even commented that he had not relapsed. After reading the obit today, I have been treading down memory lane thinking of my interactions with Gerry - 1325 G Street - N.Courthouse Rd and Downtown - So many laughs and some serious talks. I remember the time when I knew that you had stolen Gerry's heart. And I cannot tell you the number of times he referenced you during any conversation - you were always forefront in his mind and concerns. Again, our deepest condolences and sympathies. Frank, Lisa and Patrick Thompson

Jeanette: The thoughtful, written condolences of others have captured so well Jerry's wonderful character and his devotion to you, the love of his life! We really can't add to them. Someone once wrote, "At the age of 50, we begin to die little by little in the death of others." That only begins to describe the way that we feel with the loss of such a great friend - the Aschman, as we fondly referred to him. Know that our thoughts and prayers are with you at this most difficult time.
