James Preston Horton, Age 48 James (Jim) P. Horton passed away suddenly and unexpectedly on October 22, 2009 at 3:17 PM from unknown causes at Inova Fair Oaks. Jim resided in Centreville, Virginia with his family for the past twelve years. Jim was born March 28, 1961 in Tupelo, MS and lived throughout his childhood in Mississippi and Arkansas. He attended high school in Jacksonville, Arkansas. Horton left Jacksonville, AR in 1982 when he enlisted in the US Navy as a Hospital Corpsman. He met Maria in the Navy at Bethesda Naval Hospital. Throughout their marriage, Maria and Jim moved with the Navy until she retired. Jim was an interesting and great guy. He taught himself to play the guitar and played regularly throughout his life at a variety of bars, other locations, and with a number of bands. Jim also was a graphic artist. He started his own web business Flashkat Design. Jim made friends easily and everywhere. He played poker, enjoyed reading everything and was into science and gardening. Jim has been married to Maria Horton (formerly Maria Chahl) since 1985. They have three children: Matthew Charles (21), Elena Michelle (20), and Julianna Grace Horton (11). Jim is also survived by his brothers Michael of Memphis, TN and Peter Horton of Fayetteville, AR, and one sister, Laura (Horton) Porterfield of Memphis, TN. He is also survived by numerous aunts, nephews, and a niece. His parents Mr. and Mrs. James R. Horton of Jacksonville, AR preceded him in death. Friends may call at the Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, Virginia on Sunday, October 25, from 2-4 and 6-8 pm., and where services will be held on Monday October 26, at 11 am. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery on the corner of Herndon Parkway and Dranesville Road.
