Obituary of Robert Wayne Howland

ROBERT WAYNE HOWLAND, COLONEL, USMC (Ret), 78, on Tuesday, July 22, 2008. Preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Janice Howland. Beloved husband of 4 years to Shirley Hinkle Howland; devoted father to Debby and Rudy Wilkinson, Duncan and Betty Howland, Bruce and Pauline Howland, Dana and Greg Jones; loving grandfather to Patric, Megan and James Howland, Jason and Jamie Wilkinson, Nathan Wilkinson, Carrie and Jeff Miller, Abby and Jesse Engel, Amanda and Leah Yates, Sean and Delaney Jones; ecstatic great-grandfather to Jackson Wilkinson. Survived by loved brothers Paul and Don Howland. Devoted to his second family Cheryl Hinkle, Cindy Burkholder, Carol and Vince Teal and their children. Decorated veteran of Korea and Vietnam wars, retired from the USMC after 30 years, served as EVP for the NVAR, taught at several universities, tireless volunteer at church, Mount Vernon, and with numerous community organizations. A funeral service will be held at Centreville Presbyterian Church Monday, July 28, 2008, 11 a.m., 15450 Lee Hwy in Centreville, VA. Interment will be at Arlington National Cemetery August 26 at 1:00.
