Obituary of Joan Barfoot Humphreys

Joan Barfoot Humphreys died on December 29 in Reston, Virginia. She was 79 years old and was predeceased by her husband, Edward P. Humphreys. The daughter of Irish immigrants, she was born in Darby, Pennsylvania. Joan earned her RN and BSN from the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing. After relocating to Virginia, Joan worked at the Northern Virginia Mental Health Institute and then ended her long nursing career working as a Public Health Nurse in Reston. Together, Joan and her husband enjoyed raising standard poodles, collecting antiques and traveling to Ireland to spend time with Joan's many cousins there. She was an expert needlewoman who created many fine works to decorate her home and give as gifts to friends. She is survived by loving cousins in Ireland, USA and Canada. There will be a memorial service at the Adams Green Funeral Home,721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA on Saturday , January 7 at 11:00 a.m. Joan's friends and neighbors are invited to come and share memories of long friendships. Internment at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill, PA is private. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the SPCA or an animal shelter of your choice.
