Obituary of Francis Reid Keagy

Please share a memory of Francis to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Francis Reid Keagy was born to Joseph Henry and Ollie Mae Keagy on September 9, 1919. He grew up in York, Pennsylvania, with his brothers, Rodman, Richard, Marvin, and his sister, Isabel. He graduated from William Penn High School in 1939. He attended Nyack College and after graduating in 1942, was asked to serve as a preacher to several small churches in the Ozark Mountains. During WWII, he enlisted in the U.S. Army. On December 14, 1944, he married his sweetheart Dorothy Wentz. He served for ten months overseas and was honorably discharged in 1945 due to frostbite. Over the next several years, Frank worked as a linotype operator and a proofreader for several newspapers. In 1962, he began working for the Government Printing Office (GPO) as a proofreader. He looked in the phone book for a Keagy and found another Frank Keagy. He called him up and told him he was looking for a place to live while he worked at the GPO. He stayed with Frank for a year before he convinced his wife to move to the DC area. In 1963, he moved his family to Springfield, Virginia. After retirement, he worked part-time for the Fairfax Journal and later volunteered at the Fairfax Jail Adult Detention Center through Good News Jail and Prison Ministry, where he graded Bible lessons and lead Bible studies. Frank trusted in Christ as his Savior as a young boy and had a deep and abiding love for the Lord. He loved to give praise to God and had a generous and kind heart and a positive outlook on life. He was always eager to share an encouraging scripture verse, to praise God and to point others to Him. Frank and Dorothy served the Lord in encouraging, hosting, supporting and visiting numerous missionaries. He was active in the York Christian & Missionary Alliance Church (CMA), and served as the pianist for the Franconia CMA church. In 1975, he joined Immanuel Bible Church and enjoyed singing in the choir for many years. At the end of 2006, Frank and Dorothy moved to Centreville where they attended Chantilly Bible Church. Frank enjoyed fishing, golf and bowling and loved to grow and harvest vegetables from his garden. He also loved music and played the trumpet, accordion and piano by ear. He was a devoted and loving husband, father and grandfather. Frank always displayed friendliness, a sense of humor and demonstrated a strong faith in God. His life was an inspiration to his family and friends. He will be greatly missed.
