Obituary of Larry Wayne Lutz

Larry Wayne Lutz, age 71 of Ashburn, Va. passed away peacefully in his home on March 7, 2019 after a courageous 17 month battle with Glioblastoma.

Larry was born in Charleston, West Va. on October 25, 1947 to the late Phillip William Lutz and Anna Louise Hedrick Lutz.

He graduated from West Virginia University, The College of Business and Economics, in May 1971 with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration.

Larry served in the Army National Guard of West Va. (111th Combat Engineer Group) for 6 years attaining the rank of Specialist 4th Class as a combat radio operator and qualifying as a sharpshooter rifleman.

Larry was employed in numerous IT software development and leadership positions at Sallie Mae, Herndon Va. for 12 years and Freddie Mac, McLean Va. for 17 years, until the time of the Glioblastoma diagnosis.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 15 years, Leah M. Lutz, Ashburn, Va.; Christopher A. Lutz (son) and Rachel Wright, Crystal River, Florida; Michael B. Lutz (son) and Elizabeth Lutz (daughter-in-law) and Chloe Elizabeth Lutz (granddaughter) Austin, Texas.; Phyllis Storck (sister) and Steve Storck (brother-in-law) Westerville, Ohio; Lindsay Benver (niece) Columbus, Ohio; Scott Storck (nephew) , Colorado and a very large extended family of close friends and colleagues.

A member of the Northern Virginia Chapter of Trout Unlimited, and active in Habitat for Humanity projects, he loved fishing, kayaking, traveling, reading, and spending time with his sons, family, friends and granddaughter.

Family will recieve guests from 5:00pm-8:00pm on both Monday and Tuesday, March 11 and March 12, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170.  A prayer service will be held in the Adams-Green Funeral Home chapel on Monday, March 11, 2019 at 6:00pm with Chaplain Carey Johnson officiating. Funeral followed by burial will take place at 11:00am on Thursday, March 14, 2019 with visitation preceding the funeral at 10:00am at Tyler Mountain Memory Gardens, Inc., 5233 Rocky Fork Road, Cross Lanes, WV 25313. Maps and directons available by selecting the Service Information tab on this page.
