Obituary of Bill Jones

William E. Jones, March 9, 1950, to March 7, 2019

Bill Jones, who lived a good and full life just short of 69 years, had two passions in his life:  his family and golf.  He adored his wife of 44 years, Nancy; his two daughters, Bonnie and Marcie; Bonnie’s husband Keith and their sons Charlie and Philip; and Marcie’s fiancé Chris. He was unabashedly proud of all of them and talked about them incessantly to anyone who would listen. He loved his mother-in-law Allegra, whom he called Nana, and his brother-in-law Rob and sister-in-law Laura and always considered them his own family.  He and Nancy enjoyed a tight circle of friends who were, for all practical purposes, also family.

His second passion – to the point of fanaticism – was golf.  He loved the game, he loved the competition, and he loved the camaraderie the game offered.  He played aggressively, and if he did not play a round well, he admitted that he had gotten too cocky.  His golfing buddies became his ROMEOs [retired old men eating out].

He had spent his entire career working at DC Water from which he retired in 2012.  Retirement, however, was short-lived, and he could not stay away.  He began a second career there as a part-time worker to fulfill his love of databases and keep his connection with his coworkers. In fact, some of them were with him at the end.

Bill’s family wishes to express their sincere gratitude to all those along the way who touched his – and our – lives: his Christ Presbyterian Church spiritual community led by Pastor Geoff McLean, his medical teams at Kaiser Reston and Tysons Corner who, to a person, went beyond basic medical care, his neighbors in Stratton Woods, where he resided for the last 34 years, and many, many strangers along the way who bestowed their kindnesses on him.
