Obituary of John Arnold Hollinger

John Hollinger passed away, at home, from cardiac arrest on March 23, 2019. John was born August 4, 1947, to Arnold and Aileen Hollinger, in Detroit, MI. He attended and graduated from Eastern Michigan University, where he met his wife, Kathleen Lundy Hollinger, whom he married on February 4, 1967. He is survived by his sister, Susan Patrick, two sons, their wives and six grandchildren. These include Mark Hollinger, his wife Lori, and grandchildren Andrew (14) and Alison (7), Matthew Hollinger and wife Kathleen, and grandchildren Ayla (10) and Brooke (7). His son Michael passed away in 2015, leaving behind grandchildren Rachel (16) and Jonathan (13). Wife, Kathy Hollinger passed away from complications due to pneumonia on March 5, 2013.

John was a people-person, who was devoted to his wife and family. He loved talking to most anyone, friend or stranger. John grew up in the inner-city of Detroit and left Michigan in 1968, for a job with the federal government, where he resided in Northern Virginia for the remainder of his life. He joined the Central Intelligence Agency in 1969, working as an imagery analyst and chief of Counter-Narcotics Center, retiring in 2004. John loved to travel and visited over 50 countries, many with his wife Kathy. In his retirement years, he volunteered with the Reston Bible Church food pantry, driving countless miles to pick up necessary supplies.

Visitation will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA, on Sunday, April 14, from 2-5pm. The funeral will be Monday, April 15, at 11am at Reston Bible Church, 45650 Oakbrook Court, Sterling, VA. Interment will follow at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, VA.
