Obituary of Sarah Ann Sciolto

A beloved daughter, sister, niece, cousin and friend, Sarah Ann Sciolto left this world prematurely, at 39, on June 8, 2019, at MedStar Washington Hospital Center following an unexpected medical event. Born in Falls Church, VA on March 24, 1980 to Patricia L. Sciolto and Richard L. Sciolto, Sarah grew up in Reston, VA, where she returned following graduation from Virginia Tech.

A kind soul, drawn to help children be the best they can be, Sarah worked as an Instructional Assistant at Terraset Elementary School. She had previously also worked as a swim team coach, a swim instructor, and lifeguard. Sarah loved animals, especially her dog Harley, and her late-cat Atkin; she couldn’t imagine being without an animal in her home.

Sarah leaves behind her parents, step-mother Lynda, sister Leeanne, step-sister Marci, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.

A funeral service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tues June 25, 2019 at St. John Neumann Catholic Community in Reston, VA. The family will receive friends during a visitation, starting at 10am immediately preceding the funeral.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to:

  1. Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter  - Sarah is a lover of animals. Friends of the Fairfax County Animal Shelter (Friends) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization based in Fairfax County, Virginia. Since 2006, Friends has partnered with the Fairfax County Animal Shelter in its efforts to help lost and abandoned animals in our community.
  2. Brain Aneurysm Foundation - The Brain Aneurysm Foundation is the nation's only nonprofit organization solely dedicated to providing critical awareness, education, support and research funding to reduce the incidence of brain aneurysm ruptures. (Link to Donate Here)
  3. Washington Regional Transplant Community - Washington Regional Transplant Community (WRTC) is an organ procurement organization (OPO); one of 58 federally-designated, non-profit agencies nationwide responsible for facilitating the organ, eye and tissue donation process of deceased individuals. OPOs like WRTC work collaboratively with their local hospital partners, medical professionals, donor families and community members to build the programs, systems and processes needed to make donation possible. As stewards of these life-saving gifts, OPOs bridge the gap between the generous donors and the 120,000 people on the national transplant waiting list. Being an organ, eye and tissue donor is a compassionate and heroic act - please consider donating and/or signing up to be an organ donor.

Arrangements entrusted to Adams Green Funeral Home. Full obituary can be found at adamsgreen.com
