Obituary of Richard A. Lyons

Richard A. "Dick" Lyons, CDR USCG (Ret.) CDR Richard A. (Dick) Lyons, 76, of Sterling, VA, departed this life April 7 th , 2011 in Martinsburg, WV. He was born December 4, 1934 in Lowell, Massachusetts to the late Mary and Richard Lyons. Married for nearly 50 years to the love of his life, the late, Jane F. (Healy) Lyons. As a veteran of the United States Army, he served during the Korean conflict. Afterwards he joined the United States Coast Guard and retired as Commander after 27 years of service. Dick loved his family and enjoyed life to the fullest. He loved spending summers at his New England summer home. Left to cherish the memory of their beloved father and grandfather are, John and Carrie Lyons (Harpers Ferry, WV), Maura and Bill Fidler ( Bluemont, VA), Brendan Lyons (Hollywood, FL), Katherine and Vic Oson (Martinsburg, WV). Grandchildren are R. Garrett Hindman, Cara Meinecke, Bridgett Mitchum, Kevin Berger, Mary-Kate Berger, Colin, Shannon and Casey Lyons. Shawn and Kelsey Fidler. Katelyn Lyons and Daniel Oson. He also leaves behind 6 great grandchildren. Preceding him in death was his daughter, Maryellen Berger. Family will receive friends Wednesday, April 13, 2011 from 5:00-8:00 pm at ADAMS-GREEN FUNERAL HOME, 721 Elden Street, Herndon, VA 20170. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, April 14, 2011 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, 750 Peachtree Street, Herndon, VA.
