Obituary of Mary Ann Alvord

It is with deep sadness that the children of Mary Ann Alvord, nee Van Horn, share that she passed into the arms of God, her parents, and her beloved brother Johnny on the morning of November 10, 2019. Mary Ann left us peacefully and without pain. She will be remembered as the family’s best hostess and for her generosity of spirit, her love of reading and cooking, and her green thumb – but mostly for her fierce and tireless love of family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her brother William; her children, Melanie, Chip, and Channing; her daughters-in-law, Lisa and Julie; and her beloved grandchildren, Mikey, Kate, Lily, and Margot. A visitation of remembrance will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home in Herndon, VA, on Monday November 18, 2019, from 5 to 8 pm, and a Catholic Mass in celebration of her life will be held at Saint Joseph Catholic Church on Tuesday November 19, 2019, at 11am. Mary Ann’s children request that in lieu of flowers, donations be made in her honor to the Rheumatology Research Foundation.
