Obituary of Lisbeth Lynn Rook

On Sunday, December 8, 2019, Lisbeth “Libby” Rook, loving sister of 8, mother of 3, and grandmother of 7, passed away at the age of 76.

Libby was born on July 4, 1943 in Belton, TX to Charles and Laura Nell Pearce. She received her Associates Degree from Alvin Junior College in 1973 and worked as a computer engineer until her retirement in 2010. She was a mother to three sons, David, Bruce, and Bobby.

Friends and family will remember her fighting spirit and drive to do what she believed to be right. Libby was a supporter of equal rights, joining marches and rallies in her youth. An organizer and leader from an early age, Libby was a Cub Scouts Den Mother, sports team mom, and band mom in her personal life. She carried these traits into her work life, where she worked on diverse information technology projects such as writing configuration management policies for the Department of Defense, supporting early artificial intelligence development, and testing of computer systems, where her desire to “do right” pervaded her work and relationships.

Libby was preceded in death by her father, Charles Pearce, mother, Laura Nell Naismith, and brother, John Elliot. She is survived by her children and grandchildren David (wife Brid and children Sadbh and Ciaran), Bruce (wife Leslie and children Megan, Christopher, and Josh), and Bobby (wife Jody and children Lindsey and Erin); stepmother Harriette; siblings Larry, Linda, Ken, Chris, Patti, Sue, and Harriette; and lots of unnamed but not forgotten nieces, nephews, friends, and family.

“A celebration of life will be held on Tuesday, December 17, 2019 from 5 to 7 pm at The Lake House. The address is 11450 Baron Cameron Ave, Reston, VA 20190. This celebration will be open house style; please bring memories to share with friends and Libby’s family.

Instead of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation in her memory to a charity supporting equal rights or helping the homeless, two of Libby’s lifelong causes.”
