Obituary of Patricia Sinnett Scott

Patricia Sinnett Scott, 68, of Herndon, VA, passed away on the 20th day of December, 2019. She was born to the late Paul R. and Teresa C. Sinnett in Falls Church, VA, on April 12, 1951. It is with deep sadness that we share with you that she passed into the arms of God and her parents, Paul R. and Teresa C. SInnett, on the morning of the 20th day of December, 2019. She left peacefully and without pain. She will be remembered for her generosity of spirit, as the family’s hostess, and her fierce and tireless love of family. Patti worked for the NALC HBP for her entire professional life. She was the supervisor of the Eligibility and Membership Departments. She was instrumental in helping the Plan automate the manual processes in these Departments. She was also a key member of the Plan’s Brochure Committee where she wrote and proofed language that was to be published. Patti was an expert in her field and was highly regarded by her peers. Patti’s talents lay in the way she interacted with her world. She knew no strangers. She befriended so many people in her everyday life - crafters, grocery store workers, delivery people, neighbors. Once you became her friend, she would do anything for you. She recently prepared a dish for a friend in the neighborhood because this person stated she liked it. You didn't tell Patti you wanted of anything because she would get it for you. Patti was always productive and had no patience for sickness or laziness. She had a work ethic that extended beyond her career and was seen in how she experienced her daily life. Patti was very smart and well-informed. She was not a casual person, but one whose word could be relied upon. She had strength of character. She loved her family and friends. She can never be replaced, and the world will be lonelier and colder without her. We know her in the way she experienced the world - with a sense of gratitude and appreciation for others, and for the home and family she created. You could see this in the way she interacted with the hospice staff. She believed others had it worse than her, and she didn't want to inconvenience staff... Patti was the one who could make the least feel important. Everyone was someone when Patti engaged them in conversation and made them a member of the group. The question is, how can words be found to describe a free spirit who saw beauty in the smallest, most insignificant things; caused those who felt unimportant to rethink that view; could create organization out of chaos and do it all with an air of serenity and joy, causing those in her company to look at each other and ask: how did she do that? She was a fierce protector of those she loved. Doing things for others was a part of her DNA (her daily life), and she didn’t understand why others thought that remarkable. Patti lived a life that is the epitome of paying it forward. Her legacy is just that – the impression and example she set for all of us to do that something special for others today because soon there will be no tomorrow. She is survived by her husband, Donald E. Scott; her daughter, Kendra T. Simpson, and her husband, Rick Simpson; her son, Greggory P. Scott; her grandson, Gavin Simpson; her sister, Jo-Ann Sterling; and her niece, MaryAnn Sterling. The family will receive friends from 2:00 PM, until 3:00 PM, on Monday, the 30th day of December, 2019, at Adams-Green Funeral Home, with a funeral service immediately following. Burial will be at National Memorial Park, Lee Highway, Falls Church, Va, at 2:00 PM, Saturday, January 4, 2020. Arrangements entrusted to Adams-Green Funeral Home.
