Obituary of Edward James Ankers

Edward (Ed) James Ankers, 92 of Fredericksburg, Virginia passed away on January 18, 2020 in Fredericksburg, Virginia.

Funeral service will be held at Adams-Green Funeral Home on January 24 at 12:00 pm with Isaac Myers, Minister of Spotsylvania Church of Christ and Clark Coleman from the Charlottesville Church of Christ officiating.   Burial will follow the service at Chestnut Grove Cemetery in Herndon, VA.

Ed was born in Fairfax, Va to Porter and Olive Ankers on 4/18/1927. He had 7 siblings one of which was his twin brother. He worked as a Computer Programmer for the National Guard.

Ed is survived by his younger sister Inez Peebles from Leesburg, Va, his children Allen Ankers, Steven Ankers, Beverly Cormier and Janet Coppage. In addition, three step-children: Gary Reed, Judy Henderlight, and Terry McCarty. He was the proud Grandfather of fourteen grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren and two step grandchildren. Ed also has many nephews and nieces who lovingly referred to him as Uncle Ed.  He is preceded in death by his first wife Dorothy “Jean” Ankers, his second wife Margaret Ankers, his son David Ankers and one step-grandson, Clint.

Ed had been in the process of writing his own biography for many years which can be found at edankers.atwebpages.com.  He had completed Chapter 12 but had expressed sadness in completing his story as he was approaching the time in the book when he would have to write about the loss of his beloved wife Margaret. His interests included reading the Bible, singing hymns, gardening, watching old movies (his favorite actor was Robert Mitchum), computers, drawing and anything pertaining to farm life.  

Ed followed God’s plan of salvation and was baptized in 1979 after studying with his older sister Virginia Garrison and also one of the Deacons at the Manassas Church of Christ. He loved God and studied his bible regularly.  He was an inspiration to each of his children and loved to discuss and teach God’s word to them.  He made sure each knew the way to salvation and each of his children were Baptized into Christ.   He always made sure that he said “I love you” when ending a visit, a phone call, or when he went into his room to go to sleep for the night.  One of his loving reminders included: “You should never part in an angry way with anyone, it may be the last time that you see them”.
